OOTD featuring the J. Crew Bubble Necklace in Modern Red

I blogged (and tweeted) about this J. Crew bubble necklace last week and was really eager to receive it until it actually arrived.

First, it took me several minutes to untangle the mess that came in the mail (the necklace was crammed into a J. Crew box fit for a bangle). Secondly, as soon as I put it on I forgot why I had become infatuated with it in the first place. Maybe it had to do with the outfit I was wearing that day while out shopping but the necklace hadn't felt so awkwardly oversized then.

I thought about taking it back to the store and returning it but upon closer inspection of the receipt, it was (the dreaded) final sale. I am sure when pressured most store associates would allow a return but I didn't want to push my luck.

Thankfully, the necklace can be adjusted. Seen below is the tightest setting on me and the first picture is the necklace on the loosest setting.

The color is gorgeous and the stones are fairly sturdy. The necklace is of a manageable weight so I don't feel overwhelmed by the size. If I had to choose again I probably would've pick the turquoise over the red.

OOTD: Daytime Sparkles

I was in Boston last weekend visiting some friends (undernourished law students who start finals this week) and it was COLD. I was woefully underdressed but somehow managed to get a few outfits pictures without losing any digits on my hands. So for people who wonder why I look unhappy in pictures, it's because I was so cold. I am typically pretty cheerful but the winter brings out the worst in me.

And for those interested in getting a sequin skirt, I finally managed to take enough pictures for a Wear It Five Ways post (shocking, I know) so check back on Sunday for some more ideas for how to wear a gold sequin skirt.

OOTD: Coat-and-Tights-Wearing-Weather

I begrudgingly unpacked heavier coats earlier this week when I admitted I could no longer survive the outside without them.

There is one upside to coat-and-tights-wearing weather: I can get away with wearing heavier socks with heels! Allow me to explain this fashion faux pas. There are a few pairs of heels in my possession that are the right size if they were stretched out sufficiently but I never had the patience nor tolerance for pain to wear them enough. Come winter I wear thick socks under tights and wear those heels (because tights disguise everything?). By the time spring rolls around they are the perfect size.

Someone tell me I am not the only person doing this.

Express Tiered-Bottom Wool Trench Coat in Camel

I went to the mall today and showed some restraint and came home with a coat from Express (that I had tweeted about, I took everyone's advice and got the camel color) and a few items from A&F.

I first saw this coat on Hanna's blog and fell in love instantly. I initially wanted to get it in navy as it looked nothing short of gorgeous on the model but I have a Marc by Marc Jacobs coat in a similar color so I started having second thoughts. I had also wanted to order online but read in one of the reviews that the camel was more "white" than camel so I hesitated. When I went to the mall and saw it in real life I couldn't take my hands off it. It's so flattering and I had to have it, even though it was more expensive than it had been online.

Pretty, right? The XS fits perfectly and has enough room for heavy layers though the material probably isn't thick enough for New England winters.

I think it'll get a lot of wear this fall. I'd love to get some ideas for what would look good with it.

I'll do a post about my A&F purchase later today or tomorrow...now I get to catch up on blog posts. I saw on Twitter that Elle's Blog Sale has started.

Summer 2010, Where Have You Gone?

One of the things I really dislike about work clothes is that, for whatever reason, everything is usually too big and too long. Part of why I wear dresses to work (under blazers and in tights) is because dresses fit a lot better than most work tops and suit skirts. In the pictures below I am wearing an Anne Klein skirt suit in size 0, the smallest size I can find in stores. I also own Anne Klein suits in 0P and they are really not much different.

I haven't had the energy to get it tailored so it's being worn as is, which is really not very flattering. Just look at the length of that skirt...

I do like the button down though. I got it years ago and it's held up supremely well. It's an Express Stretch in size 2 (I couldn't find a 0 at the time) and it's one of very few Express items I own. I have it in a light blue color as well. I have gone back to Express in search of this shirt but have not found anything similar in quality or fit.

And in defiance of the going of summer, my long skirt and tank top combo:

Wearing D&G Bustier Top in 38 (can definitely size up, it is on the cusp of being too tight), Rue21 skirt in size M, Jessica Simpson wedges.

I decided I liked it better with the top tucked in so I wore it that way but in retrospect I think it would have worked untucked as well.

I have no plans for Labor Day (boo...the parents are on vacation and hundreds of thousands of miles away; the bf is visiting his parents back West...bffs are starting school so they are back in their respective states) so my (older) brother and I will commiserate in our lack of plans and grill when Hurricane Earl isn't wreaking havoc outside (actually, I don't know if it'll hit CT at all).

I am a little relieved that I get the next few days off, I can finally go find some things I have been wanting to get. Here's my list.

AE Skinny Jeans (Both PAG and PLG posted about this sale today, I have to go try some on in stores. I have a pair of semi skinny ones at home and it actually fits me normally. Maybe their sizing has changed?)
AT LOFT - I almost never find ANYTHING in a small size in the store near me but I am so in love with this little black wrap dress that PetiteXXS tried on.
Work appropriate tops similar to this or this or this

I realize that I have a ton of things that I want to buy, let's hope that most things look unflattering on me or else my wallet would hate me.
